Do you like toilets? Do you like electronics? Do you enjoy space-age futuristic bathroom technology? Do you get goosebumps thinking about a toilet that can clean your bum after you do your business? I've got just the place for you!
A very short walk from Shinjuku Station, up on the 26th and 27th floors, lies a showcase to kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing for even the most picky homeowner. Entire bathrooms and kitchens are laid out to show how wonderful Toto products can look in your home. The real draw for us foreigners, though, are the toilets. Some of them actually function with water, though I wouldn't use these due to a lack of privacy! The selection ranges from toilets that simply warm the seat all the way to super-fancy toilets that lift the lid when you approach, lift the seat with the push of a button, and squirt, flush, and dry with the push of a few other buttons. These toilets aren't cheap, though, and there are warnings that the toilets may not function in other countries due to differences in electricity and plumbing.
If you want to go for a test ride, simply find the actual bathrooms and push the buttons. The Toto Tokyo Center Showroom is great for a short visit to see how real Japanese appliances look and work in a modern home! Be sure to take a glimpse back to Shinjuku Station from the elevator lobby before heading off to the nearby government building's free observation floor.
Head to 1-6-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, just west of Shinjuku Station. The showroom should be open 10-6 daily except for the first and third Mondays of the month.
